The Army multiple launch rocket system operational fire direction specialist launches missiles and ammunition during combat, but also has responsibilities during peacetime. This specialist is an integral member in support of the infantry and tank units. Duties include:
- Recording and transmitting data need for fire direction
- Operating the communication system for the team
- Compiling intelligence data
- Recording, collecting and transmitting essential data
Training
To become an Army multiple launch rocket system operational fire direction specialist, you must have normal color vision. You must complete nine weeks of basic training, which consists of basic soldiering skills, and seven weeks of advanced individual training. Classroom and in-the-field training covers:
- Electronic and manual calculation for locating targets
- Operation of the communication system
- Use of maps
- Tactics used by the artillery
