| Job Description |
An Army military police officer helps handle crimes committed on Army property or involving Army personnel. Plus, the military police is responsible for enforcing Army laws and property, controlling traffic, responding to emergencies and providing support in combat zones by conducting area security, intelligence operations, internment and resettlement, and related operations. The duties of a military police officer include:
• Patrolling military sites on foot or by car or boat
• Interviewing suspects and witnesses during a crime investigation
• Collecting evidence
• Arresting suspects
• Training and working with police dogs
• Guarding military sites and controlling traffic
Training
To become an Army military police officer, you must complete nine weeks of basic training, which consists of basic soldiering skills, and 12 weeks of advanced individual training. Classroom and on-the-job training covers:
• Military and civil laws and jurisdiction
• Procedures for investigating crimes and accidents
• Methods for collecting evidence
• Firearm use
• Procedures for traffic and crowd control
• Arrest and restraint of suspects
