Army firefighter
The Army firefighter is responsible for controlling fires and helping prevent them in military buildings, aircraft and ships. This specialist is a vital member of securing the safety of all Army personnel. Duties include:
• Fighting fires during structural fires, aircraft crash incidents, vehicle emergencies and natural cover fires
• Performing emergency response duties during hazardous materials incidents
• Operating firefighting equipment, including pumps, hoses and emergency vehicles
• Providing first aid to injured personnel
• Inspecting sites for fire hazards
• Teaching techniques in fire protection
• Repairing related equipment
Training
To be an Army firefighter, you must complete nine weeks of basic training, which consists of basic soldiering skills, and 13 weeks of advanced individual training. Classroom and in-the-field instruction covers:
• Procedures in dealing with different types of fires
• Operation of firefighting equipment
• First aid
• Procedures in search and rescue
