| Job Description |
The routines and operations in a military confinement/correctional facility or detention/internment site fall under the responsibilities of a team of Army internment/resettlement specialists. An IR specialist plays an integral role in the well-being and security of personnel under the Army's jurisdiction. Duties include:
• Assisting in the supervision and management of confinement and detention sites
• Providing internal or external security
• Counseling individual prisoners
• Providing custody, supervision and escort to all prisoners or internees/detainees
Training
To become an Army internment/resettlement specialist, you must complete nine weeks of basic training, which consists of basic soldiering skills, and 10 weeks and one day of advanced individual training. Classroom and in-the-field instruction covers:
• Military laws and jurisdictions
• Techniques and procedures on self-defense and appropriate levels of force
• Ethics
• Communication skills
• Firearm use
• Procedures on custody, control and close confinement

• Think and react quickly
• Remain calm in stressful situations
• Be interested in law enforcement and crime prevention
In time, you may achieve an advanced level for an internment/resettlement specialist with additional responsibilities in supervision and logistical support. |
