Job Description
The responsibility of maintaining, processing and troubleshooting computer systems and operations falls to the Army information technology specialist. These specialists work in every military division. Duties include:

• Identifying and fixing the cause of computer user problems

• Installing computer systems and networks and configuring the hardware and software

• Obtaining and processing related information

• Assisting computer users

• Developing and assisting in the design of computer systems

These responsibilities are tied to effective communications necessary for successful Army operations.



Training

To become an Army information technology specialist, you must complete nine weeks of basic training, which consists of basic soldiering skills, and about 19 weeks of advanced individual training. Classroom instruction covers:

• Usage of computer and peripheral equipment

• Principles relating to computer systems design and installation



Helpful skills

An ideal candidate for an Army information technology specialist should:

• Be interested in typing, computer science and computer equipment

• Understand the importance of accuracy and attention to detail

• Communicate effectively

• Have experience in installing software and configuring computers



In time, you may achieve an advanced level of an Army information technology specialist with added responsibilities in assisting other information technology specialists with their work. Additional duties cover configuring equipment and software and advanced planning and design.
