Tircare does a pretty good job for what it does, however it doesn’t cover all of the medications my wife needs (we have to use Express Scripts) and I am not happy about having to pay for prescriptions using Express Scripts. The other prescriptions my wife needs costs us nearly $600 every ninety days. Also, Tricare doesn’t cover hearing, dental or vision. Why not? I spent 22 years in the Air Force and was told our lifetime medical needs would be covered after I retired. What it is, we’re not supposed to eat, hear or see? Finally, Tricare For Life is the government’s escape from providing benefits, because the government makes you pay for Medicare in order to get Tricare as it only pays the remaining 20% of the costs for the things that Medicare doesn’t cover. Again, I was told my military service would be covered lifetime after I retired – so why do I have to pay for Medicare when my medical is supposed to be covered.???

I have a pharmacy that I’ve used since I retired and was very happy with them. Now I have to use CVS and they suck. If I’m out of town and my script is ready and I there is no way I can pick it up they put it back in stock and when I do go to piick it up I’m told that I missed there deadline and they try to tell me that I have a certain time limit to pick it up.
22 years Navy, I was told a ¨spouse was not issued in my Duffel bag¨. I just went through open heart surgery for a valve replacement. It was covered 100% by the VA but performed a the best civilian cardio hospital in Philadelphia. Private Cardio rehab 100% covered by the VA. $170 a month for Medicare is all I pay. EOBś total in excess of $550,000 so far. So what´s the cost of supplemental ins these days, $350 our greater per month. I go to my local VA clinic and get my vision and hearing taken care. I do pay $48 a month dental ins. You know how you stand about dental when you go out the door. I don know about the air force but in the navy I was still responsible for my dependents 20% of medical bills but bought ins to cover that as an airman through retirement. Retired in 1995 @ 41 , 69 now and this operation was the first real sickness
I´ve encounter. Meds are from VA in the mail. Local drug store for the Mrs. don use E scripts they seem expensive to me, Tricare for life pays a good chunk of change for her drugs. If she gets a script by her Dr. that´s not covered by medicare or Tricare ask the Dr. for a drug that is on the list through the drug store Pharmacist. I just know alot of civilians that go through their medical problems that are a good chunk of change in their monthly budget on top of the insurances they pay. You are Right on whether are medical needs are taken care but, ¨ a spouse is not issued in a Duffel bag.¨

I agree totally. Trickle is excellent for Doctors office but Express Scripts STINKS. They don’t fill prescriptions on time and often they just don’t send the medicine even though there’s refills left. I go to the VA and get my medicines. No hassle there.
Tricare for Life is great. The only complaint I’ve had, and this seems so petty, is that when I joined the Army, I was told that if I gave 20 years service, I would receive for myself and my wife free medical care for life. Well, the yearly fee, what is it? $240.00? Pocket change. But I was promised FREE.. That’s not free. Sadly, the congress can change anything they wish, but you can bet that nothing will disappear from their benefits. Just sayin.
Agree, I’m sitting on a $5000.00 bill right now that I was pre approved on and my cost should have been $700.00 out of pocket.
I really like Tricare, my only issue is I believe that basic dental and vision should be covered without additional cost.

I have not been a part of the Tricare program, as I was employed and had company coverage.
My husband has Tricare for life and that’s working out for him; however, for me and my kids we all have Tricare Prime and every time I turn around the copays are getting higher and higher. We don’t have a military facility within distance so we have to pay the copays and the high prices for prescriptions, which can be costly as well; that’s if they are even covered. Some physician groups won’t even see patients who have Tricare Prime. That’s how much Tricare has gone downhill.

Essie, I understand. However I put my country before myself and my family for 22 years and was promised 100% medical care as a benefit that I earned. I held up my part of the deal, and the federal government is reneging on it’s part.
I agree 150%,I see so many people without any insurance at all, we are blessed to have Tricare. Our federal government does its very best to take care of Veterans.
If you have Tricare Prime you have no copay because my wife and son have Tricare Prime and they don’t have a copay
I agree that they should do a better job for the spouse and children if you have them. It is difficult to get TRICARE prime or your spouse. If she is under 65. A lot of doctors won’t take it.
I agree. I have to pay for prescriptions with Tricare but I can get them mostly for nothing from Blue Cross. It’s not right that illegals get better care than people that have fought to protect this country!

I’m a Liver Transplant Recipient (2018), Tricare Prime Coverage was over 600k. Had I not had their insurance I’d be SOL.
For the most part TRICARE for life does a great job, my only complaint is the Migraine mediation my wife takes states 15 pills for 32 days. They have it to refill every 90 days, I have to call each month and it takes almost an hour on the phone to get the med filled. I have asked them to change the refill date to receive the meds on the 32nd day, but for some reason they state they cant do that. I fell it would take a stroke of keys on the computer to make the change, probably less time then it took me to write this complaint. Hopefully this gets back to Express Scripts and this can be corrected

I am not happy with Tricare due to they have to be reminded on our medicines for refills. Also why we have to say automatic refills every time there are already on the prescriptions . One of our medicines

LTC Mary Wallace Hewlett,I am very happy with Tricare For Life I’ve had it ror about 15 yrs along with Medicare .I have never had a co-pay and for the most part, between the two I have minimal to no out of pocket cost.The most that I have had to pay out has been for some special dental work. The approval was slow in being received so I paid upfront and was reimbursed for the amount covered.

I don’t think Tricare pays enough for medical issues. Also they don’t provide dental care for retirees. As vets get older, dental care is as important as medical and dental costs have skyrocket. We spend billions of dollars on foreign countries and people but they should spend more $$ for vets. Live up to your promises.

I forget I have Tricare for life. They have never contacted me. They never fail to collect their money though. Trickle WAS great while I was married, and now that I’m divorced, they suck.
I’m very heartbroken, frustrated and disappointment, with both the loma linda V.A in california and tri-care. People are rude and not helpful at all. It’s like they’re just there to collect a pay check and that’s it. I had to make 100s of calls to get some kind of help. V.A is useless as well. I got injured in January had to go to the E.R. turns out I have an umbilical hernia. Since I haven’t been able to stalagmites primary care. Or get the surgery I need. Have called multiple numbers only to be bounced back and forth, with no help or answers. To this day I still have a hernia and no primary care. Pathetic that they make it impossible for us veterans to get our benefits. I have a purple heart I foughtin Iraq. I’m not asking for a hand out. I’m just asking for what I earned.
You have to have an in the line of duty injury or a condition made worse by your military service to use the VA. Your info listed here isn’t complete as to your whole situation. Talk to the DAV……
I am very happy with Tri-care for life. I am not happy with having to pay for medicine. I was promised free medical care when I retired 37 years ago. I know we get medicine at a decent price, but that is not the free care we was promised for staying in for 20 years and retiring. Dental care and Eye care was promised also.
Look into a zero premium advantage plan to get the extra benefits you mention it also into meds or you can get a plan without it and continue getting your meds from the VA health center

I totally agree with you Maurice, I’ve had nothing but the greatest help, care and meds from Tri-care and the VA since I retired almost 50 yrs. now. I’ve even had a heart attack 2010 and haven’t cost me a dime. I’m so grateful to the Navy, VA and Tri-care.
I have had multiple surgery to include mesh to fix a hernia trickle was their but I must be 25 miles of my medical facility or 30 minutes they have been 👍

Don’t know where you live but, my husband was in 21 years, Vietnam & Desert Storm Vet. On both registry for them. Even though we still see a Dr. ON post, where we receive our meds.He also goes to VA clinic for yearly check ups plus gets free dental & eye glasses are free after an eye exam, which Medicare pays so much, the rest is ours to pay! We’re very pleased with Tricare for life which became that once we turned 65 & started Medicare! What Medicare don’t pay, Tri- care pays! No money out of our pocket so far!
I’m also retired but no dental care was promised. In fact I was told during my outprocessing that there was no dental coverage.
Tricare need to cut front Express-script NOW. It’s so sad that you have to continue to fight with Express-script to get what was promised. I didn’t put my life on the line in Vietnam to have to be treated this way. CVS I never had a problem. I would rather pay monthly and get what I need to survive than supposedly get a 90 day supply super late if any. They have brand name medication , but when they change to generic you still pay brand cost, I get a better deal with good RX.
Well our lustrous congressman passed a statute that forces everyone that “earns “ retirement to go to Tricare. Even if your 100% disabled veteran. Which should be either tricare for life and or VA. But you lose VA and have to pay premiums and deductibles and for the life of me my kids n wife as well. We also cannot get our prescriptions from express scripts. Should of just used VA prescriptions to get it cheaper. But some congressman made a deal with express scripts. Bunch a criminals!
Tricare for Life is a joke! I had Tricare Prime and 100 disabled veteran. So I could either go to VA or use my Tricare. Then they decided that if you are receiving Medicare you have to pay the extra for it or lose your Tricare all together. So if you live in a small area where there are no bases or close VA clinics then Tricare for Life comes in handy for Medications at Publix or paying the er bills that medicare doesn’t cover. So every year that cost goes up to keep Medicare while non veterans have more options with it. How is this right??? We cannot even hardly get VA care in Georgia without months of waiting.
I don’t understand why I pay for my medication and others on just a medicare advantage plan does not. I was promised free medicare and medication free for life when I retired from the military and now illegal immigrants get a better medical plan than I get. Also was told my dental would be free if I stayed and made the military a career. GUESS WHAT!!!!
I love my Tricare. My husbnd chose an army career so that we could have access to military health care after retirement.. We were misled at the time because we were told it would be free. The fact that you had to enroll in Medicare and pay a very high monthly premium in order to get free military health care, was not emphasized. So while I enjoy my tricare program, I am paying upwards of $300 per month in premiums for Medicare- which I rarely use. So, my health care is still not free as it was touted. And to add insult to injury, Medicare’s high monthly premiums double depending on income level. Not happy with this aspect of the program at all.
Tricare for Life is doing a SUPER OUTSTANDING job, I would say better than the military use to do. They always pick up the 20% tab that Medicare doesn’t cover no matter which doctor I choose or use. I just hope that the Government doesn’t try to improve it and turn it into a disaster like they do everything else that the try to fix.

Tri Care are doing a great job, the only thing is we can’t bring our prescriptions to the pharmacy we have to submit it in with the paperwork and most Elderly don’t have computers then you have to choose what pharmacy that the military have for you to pick it up, I like the old way where you can just line outside the pharmacy till they call your number, it’s very confusing, so I am asking if they could go back to the old system
Truncate is doing a great job except for non-ExpressScript. Refills are way too long in getting your meds but they’re on top of taking your payment, days before your meds are delivered. Unpersonable and not understanding of who they serve! Go back to the neighborhood pharmacist where personal customer service has meaning! Sad to see this horrible contract of a horrible outfit like ExpressScripts serve a great military.

Tricare is doing great. DHA is making it harder for retirees to get care in a timely manner and constantly reducing tricare effectiveness. The pharmacy rx is a complete nightmare now at Joint Base Langley-Ft Eustis. Now with Genesis…almost impossible to get care or rx. The 633 Medgrp is the most difficult we’ve ever encountered year after year…a constant high blood pressure event each time.
i am happy with Tricare except for 1 thing. I wish they would renew their contract with Walmart pharmacies, as I work there and would prefer to use my workplace to fill my Rxs. Walgreen and CVS are horrible, they treat their pharmacy staff horribly and most of the stores in the city where I live are now closed on weekends because they don’t have enough staff to keep them open. We were told that Walmart refused to give them the amount they wanted for their discounted prices, but that is BS because our prices are already 30 to 50% of the prices for the same drugs at the other 2.

Tricare is good. But what decreases their ratings is Express-script, absolutely horrible. Please go back to CVS, Walgreens or any combination but not Express-script.
people that don’t like tricare, really are special……., tricare is extremely affordable, copays are low, accepted most places(in network) these disgruntled people should go pay for civilian insurance and copays and BIG deductibles …. tricare for life and medicare is excellent to!!…….maybe they just don’t understand how it works, or insurance at all!!

Tricare is outstanding; as time goes on Washington is slowly taking some of our privileges away. They need to update their prescription policies, there are medications that are out, and Tricare doesn’t approve them though it’s been approved by the FDA.

Tricare is working for me and my family. Delta Dental on the other hand is not a very good plan. Delta Dental only covers the basic in dental care. Which means the customer is left paying for most of their dental care out of pocket.

I am furious with Tricare because they dropped our pharmacy along with 53000 others throughout the country. We have been with that pharmacy for over 20 years. We loved it there. It was a small one and pharmacists were all like family. We called them by their first names and the did they did the same to us. We knew them and they were sensitive to our needs. If we had questions we could call they’ll and talk to them as much as we needed. Now we’re stuck with a big name homogenized insensitive drug store. So I’m absolute unhappy and highly pissed at Tricare. I have no use them right now. They cover everything else just fine but I want my pharmacy back damn it.

I loved tri care. Sadly I wasn’t aware of Tricare upon being medically discharged. All I got from the CO was see ya later. It wasn’t until decades later when I was made aware of Tricare that I happily purchased it. Then at 65 I was required to get Medicare and exit Tricare. I tried everything to keep it. All the way to my senator but was denied. Now I pay 3 times as much with poor quality care. I offered to pay all my back premiums to stay. To no avail. I wish they had had an exit path when I was discharged.
You didn’t loose Tricare when you turned 65. Tricare just became your secondary carrier
In my opinion it was a bad move to merge Tri care with Humana. As a retired veteran we were promised full healthcare benefits by the federal government at no cost. In most cases now we are being refused medical treatment, asked to pay a co-pay of out of plan, pay for dental and vision care. I say this because I have heard it from numerous veterans over a long period of time.

In my opinion from what I gathered from many retired veterans that I haven spoke to over sixty percent of them feel the exact same way that I do!

I agree we were promised those benefits and congress has never seen it fit to bring back those benefits promised due to it not ever being made into a law.every ten yrs.or so they again nip away at every veteran or retirees benefit but never take away congressional use of military hospitals or facilities for themselves or families so I ask you why is that above scrutiny but not our benfits.
Retirees have to pay for vision and dental. These aren’t covered by Tricare for life. If I didn’t have those coverages I would have to purchase a Medicare Part C plan that includes dental and vision.

This is true. I was medically discharged and tried to continue with retired tricare and they want to charge me a a crazy amount plus I would have to pay copay. Plus if I added my wife it was more. So I just put my wife on and I stayed with the VA only.
Try care is ok, it’s the communication between the v.a., me, and TC.? I’m being charged because drs.want to see me after procedures, or every 6 months..and x-rays.? Im being charged 1500 for one image and chest xray..after care is a proublem..and 700 to a kidney dr.. it’s a mess, I have to drive 50 miles to do paperwork with community service..big mess.

Check out Benefeds. Dental and vision for all Federal employees and retirees. I pay $38 a month for dental.
Copays keep going up quite frequently. Its over $90 a week for physical therapy if i go three days a week like I should. They need to rework the billing on therapy so that you dont have to pay a copay more than once in a week. That would be more affordable.
When I entered the service, I signed an agreement that said I would get free medical care for life. The definition of free in terms of tri-care has changed several times over the years. Once I retired, my medical costs have increased 10-fold. On top of that when a medical provider bills for a service that occurred before I was on Medicare, I am responsible for 100% of the costs as Tricare has no record of previous completed deductibles and co-pays. I find it hard to believe that the day I turned 65 all of my previous payment records were destroyed.
I am thankful and appreciate tricare the only problem I see is not enough people working there to get the bills paid. Outside professionals are reluctant to help the veterans because they have to wait so long for their money.

I’m very satisfied with Tricare. My Husband have Tricare for Life and we’re both happy to have medical insurance due to both of us having several health issues. When I have a problem with a bill accidently being sent to me, I immediately call the service center and so far, they have always taken care of the bill. Thanks to all the veterans who’ve served this country!

I am a type 2 diabetic and recently was refused a glucose monitor. I’m trying to prevent becoming a type one diabetic. The use of a monitor will only help myself and others like me monitor where or blood sugar is at so we can understand what good or bad. Reading labels do help but so much information on those labels. Having a monitor would help the process of getting better and moving on with my life. Thanks for listening
Dental needs to fully cover my dependents. Not being able to be seen on base is unacceptable. I cannot afford to pay for the co-pay that is required to take care of my spouse’s teeth.
I think Tricare is doing a good job however, they should offer dental care. As we get older we are in need of general dental care and maintenance., sometimes dentures and replacements.
I am quite pleased with Tricare for Life. However, I was very disappointed when Tricare Retiree Dental Program of California was discontinued.
My opinion about Tricare is that it is fantastic while you have it and extremely affordable. BUT…………Then you retire from the Army and to cover a family, Tricare costs over $1000 bucks a month! Our medical coverage is one of the reasons we get paid so little while we serve and deploy. If there is anything that Tricare needs to fix, it’s taking care of the folks willing to serve over 20 years of their life to just get screwed after retirement.
Being a veteran, I go to two of the best medical facilities available to me. Palo Alto Veterans Hospital and for TriCal, I go to Stanford. Best doctors in the country.
I am very thankful and appreciate tricare. The only issue I think I might have is the length of time it takes for the outside folks to get their money because I continue to get bills

I am generally satisfied with TRICARE, however there is an issue wifh payments that needs improvement. I have Medicare which is a “First Payer”. I have a MEDICARE SUPPLEMENT second level if insurance through Aetna which is the 2nd Payer. I have TRICARE FOR LIFE which should pay for any charges not covered by MEDICARE or the MEDICARE Supplement. However this is not the case. I receive the TRICARE EOB which routinely states that that MEDICARE/MEDICARE SUPPLEMENT paid more for the procedure or service than TRICARE would have paid therefore the claim is not eligible.. it would seem TRICARE’S DRG payments

As a spouse of a retired Vet, I am satisfied with the help it gives us. In order to be healthy which is part of the Tricare use, you have to keep good dental health. Why is this not covered. Problems with dental health can lead to an unhealthy person which makes you a risk to have to use a lot of Tricare insurance. Dental should be covered, it is a health issue.

After retirement, Tricare forgets that you still have a family like special needs children with incontinence, the DME does not pay or authorize expendables items like diapers, wipes, and other DME that are necessary for those needs children.
Tri Care is Awesome, I pay way less than BCBST and my wife get Tri Care for Life and no co payments. And with Express Scripts she gets her medicine delivered to our mail box. And my monthly co pay is super low and with VA dispersing my medicine everything comes to our mailbox. I have saved a ton of time and money using Tri Care with the VA. I use FEDVIP for my vision and dental and for me and my wife its $79 a month and it’s great Hope everyone looks into FEDVIP.
Agree with everybody who states that Tricare should offer dental and vision plans for retired service members. Yes, we were guaranteed lifetime Healthcare (and GI bill – am Vietnam era) Era, but we have seen that mostly all erode or disappear.
As for prescriptions, Tricare/Express Scripts should be offering/approving leading edge medicines for us retirees. I am a diabetic – service connected, my Endocrinologist wants me on the new Omnipod 5, but neither Tricare nor VA will approve. Our health seems to be a non priority as they say some meds are just too expensive for them – but let’s spend trillions of dollars on other political pork barrel stuff.

I agree about the medication formulary. Best option meds are often not covered. I like a particular eye drop for itchy eyes. My drop is not on formulary. The offered substitute does nothing for my eye itchiness.
I to was guaranteed full health care for life IF I stayed in service for at least 20 years. What a laugh that turned out to be. The Govt. will lie through their teeth to get young people to volunteer for service. The so-called leaders in Washington can get health care for life for only serving 4 years. This stinks like the garbage it is.

I agree 100%, while in the service, I thought if I do make it a career I will not have to worry about Health Insurance, as I was covered by the GI Bill. We know what happened to that. Something is better than nothing but not by a lot!
I have Not had any problems with Tricare for Life. I do wish I could get My medications without going to the AB about 1 hour away. I think they should cover Dental, eyes and hearing.

What VA are you talking about? I am with Robert J Dole in Wichita, KS, and they fix any and everything wrong with me. From the top of my head to the bottom of my feet. They treat us vets like we are #1 in their life. I can’t express enough gratitude for the care I get. I am on Medicare and TriCare for Life. Yes I am also rated at 100+ % disabled Service Connected and Combat Related.

After all, when I originally signed up we were promised medical care through tricare for the rest of our life, then they changed, now tricare for life means secondary insurance. But im.not here to brag I want to know why when he retired after 20years of service we signed a contract that he and the family medical and dental was free for life this is before Reagan took it to insurance and his teaparty to me thats a contract broken my husband since died with many painful aliments from agent orange that rained down o him 8times why wasn’t agent orange tested before it was used to see if it caused any type of damage to the men and women serving in Vietnam I am wondering about that he felt promises were broken by Reagan when republicans screwed him over we miss him its been a struggle he was a great man and a loyal soldier

Tri-care for life is the greatest thing going, since sliced bread. Since getting it I haven’t had to pay much, a few dollars to Express Scripts, $10 or $12. You can’t beat Tri-care for life. Keep up the SUPER work and your doing a SUPER job.

I have dealt with Tricare for over 30 years with much disdain Retired after 24 years and eventually went to work for the Department of Veterans Affairs in Columbia, SC. Tricare and the VHA both need to be abolished due to ineptitude. Tricare dealings for bills have lasted a year until they finally paid for the services rendered. The only justice is that most of them were the fees from the VHA which should not cost any veteran a dime. We have earned it and it is a joke,
Tricare is a joke, and the military retiree dental care program is an abomination, Bill Clinton and his SecDef, Aspen, who kicked military retirees out of military hospitals and dental clinics, along with Trent Lott and Newt Gingrich, who let them get away with it, should all be thrown in a hole so deep, sunlight has to be pumped in.

In general I guess TRICARE does about as good a job in providing medical care as any organization. There are going to be major mistakes and down right blunders. Some to the level of criminal malpractice and legal action is warranted to the fullest extent of the law.
What gets me is where TRICARE dictates to the medical doctors what medications to prescribe for a patient. This can go on and on for weeks and months while the patient goes untreated for a condition. I served as a medical technician with three specialties in the twenty years I served in the USAF. Fortunately, the physicians were not handcuffed in their duties.
I have used Tricare as my “advantage plan”. It has been a blessing, picking up the balance of my cancer treatments. It has been a hassle since the CVS contract for prescriptions was not renewed. I miss the 90 day supplies.
Tricare is terrible, I was in an accident and suffered a tri Malleolus Fracture which reqsuired 2 metal plates , a large number of screws .and three months in a wheel chair.. It took the VA 6 Months to
approve physical therapy, by then the cartlidge and tendons in my leg and ankle were so stiff numb and constricted that I will never be able to walk correctly again. The Surgeon suggested a visit to a neurosurgeon,,, 15 Months later and a tireless amount of telephone inquiries, there has been no response from the VA. Thanks Government !

Just why should they care about you or any comments listed here. They are too busy taking good care of themselves. As far as any dental help. I just spent over $13,0o.00 for the dental work done in the military goofs. I am retired military.
Tricare has been very good however would it be possible to add an option for dental? All our elected officials have that provided to them and the front line warriors do not

Agree. I’m 70 and on Tricare for Life which is a free supplemental for us… I pay $75 a month for Delta Dental. Medicare pkgs offer so much more to us older folks nowadays, but if I participate with with a plan D oe others, Tricare becomes a terciary and my responsibilty to file for anything not paid for by Medicare as a whole…prescriptions especially. I`m caught in the middle. No complaints with Tricare EVER…Grateful for the coverage these past 21 years.
Love Tricare…. only problem is they need to extend dependent age to 26 like other insurances! Should not require them to be a full time student … now kids need to work and go to school so full time is not an option for many of them.

I think doing a good job soldier’s their sposes and family members, I am just a little worried that congress both parties and the POTUS, are going to start cutting back on the promises the told soldiers on the day they raised the right hand under outh and witnesses.
Tricare taking care of the family including me, VA don’t recognize me, injured in 1972 and again in 83. 5 psych civilian hospitalizations, VA says “we don’t do psych”. Thank you Tricare.
Why do I think TriCare is doing a poor job? I was promised Healthcare for Life upon retirement. Then it became regional, with levels of care – I was an ExPat (retiree living in Germany). Upon returning to the US, at the age of 60, it was still available but not locally, so I joined the VA. Then, as I approached 66, I received a warning from TriCare that if I wanted to keep TriCare that I had to sign up for Medicare Part B, since I’d just signed up Part A. Since I’m still employed, I have BlueCross through my employer, and the VA, which is right down the road. I don’t need any additional coverage, whether through TriCare or Medicare. Now that I’m on Social Security, I reconsidered Part B and Tricare, but the SSA agent recommended against it since I have these other coverages. TriCare has done nothing for me since I left Germany, 7 years ago.
I’m a Vietnam combat veteran and thought tricare insurance was only for career military personnel! I can’t say or answer your question.
Same here, I don’t have TriCare; Don’t know and never explained to me if as a Veteran rather I qualify for it or not. So much for representation VSO or whomever that helps Veterans receive their full benefits.
I have been in and out of the VA Health System since 1960 and have seem several changes here in The Solders Home facility in Chelsea, Ma. and Veterans Hospital here in Philadelphia.. I have seen lots of Personal changes, Equipment Updates, the advent of Physion Assistants, etc. All for the betterment of Veterans and Veteran Families. The biggest problem, over the years; Is cooperation of our Government for funding, etc. As of late the problems I have personally encountered:
1) The Levels of tricare has adopted and copays associated with Services.
2) Trying to determine what insurance coverage pays what. (ex)Medicaid verses VA verses other
Independent Insurance Companies.
3) Transportation: I live out in the suburbs and I am 78 years old. The Seinenor Transportation here
is limited to my county and will not provide service to Philadelphia. There is a local VA Clinic but
it does not have all of the services I require, so I am advised to go to Philadelphia VA. My sons
and daughter all live in different States.. I have to see outside or local Doctors.. Now the problem
returns to the Insurance issue. Will the VA pay for their services or Medicaid?

When I entered the military in 1966, we were promised that we would get 100% medical and dental if we stayed in until we retired. Then the eroding began. The care I get is excellent, but it is not what we were promised. Apparently, promises don’t mean much.

I didn’t when know i had tricare for life found out after I received a Stent in a heart artery and after I found out submitted and took forever but paid now say I have to pay 14 hundred so submitted it again to tricare with hopes they would pay like they said they would. Seems to be a huge hassle after being told with Medicare and tricare I wouldn’t need to pay anything again
You were not enrolled in tricare for some reason so they didn’t pay. We have Medicare and tricare and never pay any extra. We have had many major surgeries including a stent and paid nothing.

Once I got out in 2009 Than in 2011 became part of the VA system. My only Tri-Care experience was when I was Active. As far as being out VA works, for me. Now Meda-Care Calle me everyday they to many numbers to block. The VA is not for everybody by no means. Over All the American Health Care System is failing it citizens, all of us!

We’re very happy with Medicare A & B and Tricare f9r Life! How about adding dental and Vision for both! Hubby gets glasses at VA, Madison,WI ! Also hearing aides!! We both should get them!!! As a wife and Mom I put in my time. My dentures and implants are not cheap! Just saying thanks for what we do get!

This is part of the promise for the retiring. Pay check every month, medical and go fishing when I want. The good life.
I do not use TriCare as my primary insurance as I have VA, Medicare (recently) & another HMO, so I cannot say for or against TriCare. With all available insurance resources I have, maybe my bills do not even make it to Tricare.
In my wife’s situation, HMO and TriCare applies and since the HMO is first payer, I do not know what impact TriCare has if any.

These Mortgage companies want your equity and they know how to get it.
I’m dissatisfied because of 2 reasons.
1. I remarried a couple years ago after my first wife passed away 8 years ago. They both have the same name Debra. Every time my wife had a claim it was denied because she had died. We changed her name by hyphenated last name still had to call. They can’t fix it for some reason?????
2. Remember TRICARE PRIME? I do, it was great!!!

Paul, I have Tricare for life and it is excellant!! I had to give my SS # and that’s how they identify me. You should go to the DAV and have them help you if the actual Tricare for life representatives can’t correct your problem.

I totally agree with you! Tricare for Life is a joke a lot of the time. Remember when we were told that if we retired that our insurance for us and our family members would be free for life, Well, the Defense Spending Bill that was passed in 2019 under the Republican controlled government changed that, had to pay $12.00 a month for my wife and another $12.00 for me for a total of $24.00 a month until I reached 65 and receiving Medicare. Being my wife is young than me, I just have to pay hers, but Tricare for Life really sucks. I always have to resubmit 3 or 5 times to get anything done. Yes, I do use the VA for somethings being 50% VA disabled, but during the pandemic they didn’t see anyone, so can’t trust them for everything.
Duane , You need to get your facts strait . True, the government promised us free health care for life if we spent 20 + years on active duty . Well in 1995, Bill Clinton and the Democrat controlled congress , created tri-care that we had to pay for . Well when you reach the age of 65 , they forced us onto MediCare. Then they tried to make us happy , by enacting Tri-Care for Life . It has worked well for me , But I’m now paying $4,104.00 a year for the free health care they promised us WWII and Korean war vets . Congress as a whole sucks regardless of party .
I have Tricare for life I think it’s awesome I had heart surgery in November sent me to Palo Alto Stanford medical center did a great job I’m 100% disabled so I get free dental everything is pretty much free so I don’t know what’s wrong with your program but I love Tricare for life
TRI CARE FOR LIFE IS GREAT!
I retired from the Air Force in 1994 after 27 years active duty. We are 75 years old and have had Medicare and TFL since we hit 65. Since then, we have never paid a penny for any medical issue, medical appointment, co-pays, etc. My wife had a compound fracture 10 years ago and had to take an ambulance 60 miles away. We never paid one penny for that and the bills were in excess of $60,000. We use Express Scripts for meds and they cost $12 for a 3 month supply. I am extremely happy with our coverage. I have heard people complain that “I was told I would have free medical and dental for life”. No one ever promised me that, recruiter or anyone. If it was true, it would have been documented on my enlistment papers. Everyone at 65 is eligible for Medicare Parts A&B. We are blessed to also have TFL otherwise we would be paying for a supplement and supplements don’t pay everything like TFL does. I wouldn’t anything about TFL. As far as dental, we signed up for the FedBen (Delta Dental) program and don’t at all mind paying the $75 a month for it. Life is good!!!

My wife has had to change dentist three times in the last three years because Tricare changes which dentist we can uses. You just get started and you have to change and start all over again. My wife can’t but I chose to drive 150 miles to get the VA to do it but my wife can’t.
I used Tricare Overseas 3 years ago in Bahrain and I still haven’t received any compensation and I submitted for the charges twice. Not impressed.

VA Healthcare is available to ALL Honorably Discharged Veterans ( and yes, there may be a co- pay in certain instances)
TRICARE is for RETIRED military
TRICARE for Life..retired military over 65.
Save yourselves stress by confusing the programs! If you didn’t retire, you aren’t Tricare eligible.

Tricare is even available to Veterans that are disabled too. When they have to seek outside care in the community, Tricare is often utilized used. I am 80% and have been using Tricare West in AZ.

My husband and i have Tricare for life. He was the veteran but passed away July of 2021. I am still enrolled of which i am thankfull. Overall we have not had any problems, however, it has recently been brought to my attention that current medications enrolled in Express Scripts cannot be transferred. At times that creates a problem for me getting my meds in a timely manner. As well as the co pays are much higher in price than my pharmacy.
This is the worst care I have ever received with the VA. I shouldn’t have to fight over and over for my medical needs.
I really like tricare the have treated me good, except for somebody decided that I didn’t need my dexilant anymore so took it away from me and put me on a medicine that I have taken before and still have problems. They seem to think that they know whats best for me when in all aspects they really don’t. Not happy about the change and still having problems.

Retired, 21 years service. I use Tri-Care Prime as my only insurance and am extermely happy, grateful and apprecative for this benefit (yes, I pay for it). I have heard (and read) some horrifying stories about less than satisfactory service and care, I get it, it happens, but why does that happen? I find, many people feel “entitled” to and “demand” the absolute best care and feel betrayed and or insulted for having to contribute the slightest amount for the service. The entitled and demanding attitude, that I have witnessed people display, is shameful, to say the least. Why do people complain so loudly and praise so silently? My wife and I have received medical services at active duty Air Force Bases and Army Posts to include local civilian (specialists) offices and hospitals with exceptional service and no reservations/exceptions to accepting Tri-Care Prime. Recently, my wife needed several surgeries totaling tens of thousands of dollars; I received a co-pay bill for $37.50. Yes, I count my blessings everyday we are together. I do not pay any co-pays when we receive medical care at an active duty base/post in our area. I will however, receive a minimal co-pay bill when I have to see a civilian specialists for any of my various issues. That said, we DO receive outstanding service/care and we ensure everyone, who attends to us, understands our appreciation. A gracious “Thank You” and a smile goes a long way in their wanting to help and provide the best health care available. Many people believe “the squeekie wheel gets the grease”. Yes, that is true but that wheel can also be replaced.
I, for one, count myself blessed for having this benefit.

What is Tricare.?
Retired Navy vet Tricare for life is our secondary insurance which allows us no copay after Medicare has paid and no balance due us on our healthcare. This is a very appreciated benefit we are so thankful for.
They pay the Doctors bill when they send you out to see someone in the public.
Went to local hospital, not VA, left me with $21,000 bill I can’t pay
In 2019, President Trump had enacted a Executive Order that permitted US veterans to go to any hospital and that hospital has to accept VA medical as if the veteran was being treated at the VA hospital. I know one(1) veteran that done this…you tell the free world hospital that you want to use your VA medical benefits at this hospital your doctor referred you to.
In your case where you already been charged by the free world hospital….try telling the VA to straighten this all up with the accountants at the free world hospital, that there is some kind of a mistake, you told the free world hospital that you want to use your VA medical benefits at this hospital.
If all else, write a brief short two(2) page letter to your US Senator…start the letter with stating specifically what you want him/her to do for you. Then, explain…so the US Senator don’t get lost on what you want him/her to do for you.
My father done this in turning in and using his GI Bill for the first time after a half-century after her volunteered in enlisting into the US Coast Guard during WWII…and, it worked ! He got his free house for life(you don’t sell the house, you say to the US Government that you need a bigger house for free each time you move) and free medical insurance for life (but it didn’t pay for everything) that includes his wife, and if not married when enlisting, the free medical insurance passes down to the veteran future children when he gets married later on. There has never been a GI Bill like this since then during WWII. My father put down,”girlfriend,” and had his US Senator to have it as “his wife” when he enlisted back then, so his now wife 50 years later(common law marriage back then…they lived together longer then six(6) months when he enlisted into the US military ), so she’ll get free VA medical insurance care after he dies and she still gets the free house(during WWII out in the Atlantic Ocean participating in D-Day invasion/liberation of France, aboard a battleship he got a Purple Heart injury from a German Dive-Bomber exploding a bomb upon and hitting the battleship. All of this was going on 13 years before I was born to another lady my dad married after WWII ended…then, divorced her when the youngest kid turned 18 years old….then, married this said lady in a church 50 year later, with doing all this said paperwork with his US Senator for a free house for life and free VA medical care insurance for life.
I, myself, am under the Vietnam GI Bill and I never used it, never registered for it until 49 years later, and I still don’t know what all benefits I’m supposed to receive under it.
That was Obama who gave us the Choice program, changing a sentence or 2 doesn’t make it Trumps bill.

My family is enrolled in TriCare Extra. I find it difficult at times for health care facilities to file with Tricare. I am enrolled in TriCare For Life and seldom utilize this benefit as I am also a disabled vet.

How do you get tri care extra?
I retired in 1995 and I have had no problems with Tricare my wife and I have had no issues. We have been seen consistently by the doctors they have treated us with respect and they have been patient with us under all circumstances and conditions. At times when there was a need for a specialist An appointment was scheduled for us to see others in order to make sure that all things were well. I am grateful and thankful for all that I am receiving from Tricare.

I don’t know where most of you guys are from. I have been with Tricare for life a very long time. I had no problems with them until this year. I have never had to pay for my meds before this year. I am getting huge payments because they are telling me that I have Medicare Part D, which I don’t, and they will not pay for my meds like they use too. Tri-Care is for retired military. Vets, like yourself are eligible for VA healt care at any VA facility. Not sure about medications through VA as I use Tri-care and Express scripts. I retired after 21 years in 1989 and only pay co-pay on my meds.
I would call Medicare to make sure you were not signed up to Medicare Part D plan with out your knowledge.

I can’t get travel pay as they say I make to much money. S S never pays to much money. No one there can or will live on 1200$ a month with prices as high as they are. I can’t afford to go to the doctor because the price of fuel. My closest V A is 50 miles away. They need to redo there sealing price so we can get travel pay.
Walt, if you live more than 50 miles from the nearest VA facility (Even an outpatient clinic), all you need to do is fill out the !travel form and the clinic will submit it for you. That’s for scheduled appointments only.

I receive my Meds VIA express scripts with a modest co-pay. My doctor visits and other medical services are paid in full between Medicare & Tricare. I am retired military plus 65 years. I never pay a premium for Tricare. I don’t know what could be better.

I also have Medicare and Tricare and use Express Scripts for my mail box prescriptions. I dont have any problems yet, I’m only 66 and not married. But my highest bill from Tricare has only been $23.00 and that’s only been once.
John….same here. Use Medicare and Tri-Care as I am retired AF and over 65. Tri-Care is my Part B supplement and picks up part of what Medicare doesn’t pay. All my meds come through Express Scripts and all I pay is a co-pay.
Tricare is fine, but does not cover chiropractic care and other specialty medical services. Some of these treatments are really needed, and provide relief without medication, or surgery. Need to allow treatment outside Tricare system.

The military promise us that if we stayed for 20 or more years , they will take of us but Tricare charge us a lot of money for our medications so how they are taking ca of us?
Moved from Fricare Prime to Tricare for life–not seemless and bills that should have been paid under one denied under other paperwork laggs behind so affects credit before vet knows there is an issue. Yes it is cheaper than alternatives, but not what we were promised for a career in service. We need to do better, we deserve better.
I used to have Tricare for life in which I didn’t have to pay but now because of my age I was moved to Medicare/ Medicaid in which I now have to pay.
I’m in the same boat. The TriCare premium drops off and is replaced with the Medicare Part B premium.

I just started TriCare when I turned 60 in November 2021. The only issue at this time is when I receive VA medication through the VA none of my medicine is covered by TriCare unless there is a certain form to be summited every time for every Med that I receive. I’m only going on what the VA pharmacy told me. I’m only 20% so I owe a copay every time. Can you explain this to me since you are a Military Health Insurance!
Use Tri-Care Express Scripts for your meds, if you are retired military. Have your doctor send your presciptions to Express Scripts and they in turn mail them to you in a few days. YOU….have to set up your Express Scripts account and provide a co-pay method (debit, CC etc) to pay for the co-pays which are like $12 per script.
Tricare Prime has been great for me and my wife however Tricare young adult Standard is by far the biggest waste of money as they cover as little as possible. The Tricare Prime for my wife and I have been far better than those insurances my neighbors have so I will certainly not complain about them. There is not an insurance out there that can’t improve but we can say that about every company.

I’ve been using John’s Hopkins Uniformed Services Health Care which is TRICARE Prime. I absolutely love it but next year I’ll have to go on Social Security and I’m not sure how it works or how it will change. I’m sad if I have to leave any of my doctors
Lori, when you start on SS apply for Medicare A/B if you can. You should be able to change to (Tricare for Life ) also.
When I got my SSDI they kicked me off tricare and said since I was Medicare eligible I can’t have tricare. My wife still gets I though. I am retired Army the Medicare is much more expensive than tricare and sucks
Lori, I too have John’s hopkins USFHP. I turned 65 and filed medicare part B only. Yes, its on the social security website. Under their plan( John’s Hopkins, I am still under tricare prime. They are the first payer and Medicare is second payer. I pay zero copay, visits, or prescription. I however pay monthly payments to Medicare. I also have my same doctors, specialist, etc. You can keep your spot at USFHP John’s Hopkins. I hope that helps.
I have not used VA myself but a friend has been in remission from leukemia since the VA did a bone marrow transplant in Nashville 5 years ago. It saved his life.

TriCare For Life has been pretty good, although getting reimbursed for some things can be a real hassle.
Express Scripts could really use some improvement. I called to renew a prescription– per their instructions, only to have them tell me I need to call the doctors office. Then, the doctors office tells me that TriCare needs to notify them that I need refills. Then, I have to follow up to see that the refills were actually submitted.
They all have my records, why can’t they read the dates and just do what needs to be done, rather than my having to make numerous phone calls??
When you go online to Express Scripts there is a place to request refills.
Patrick; I agree with your assessment of TRICARE. It works automatically when our doctors and hospitals file MEDICARE claims. (All co-pays are covered by TRICARE). I must use Express-Scripts; which works very well after learning how to manage my medications by computer. I never use telephone with E-S.. I DO object to the E-S moderate co-pays.. Since I entered active duty in 1955, I was “Promised free health care for myself and dependents for life”. (Verified by SCOTUS decision some years ago). Upon Army retirement in 1983, I immediately filed the necessary claim with Veterans Affairs, and within a short time began receiving VA Compensation at 30% rate. Subsequently, that grew to 70%. Last year that was raised to 90%; paid at 100% rate due to “Unemployable” determination. Additionally; I have been declared; “Totally and Permanently Disabled”. I advise all veterans to file a claim with VA, and to contact the Disabled American Veterans who are well-informed and stand ready to assist.
In general, TriCare is pretty good, however, it takes too long to get authorization of extensions for therapy.
Since I can choose my physical therapists for my convenience and known success rates, I think that helps.
I think the limitation on ER visits is rather stupid.

I like to see for seniors to get teeth Implants for free. I also have Tricare so I have everything paid for.
But they do not pay dental either.
I have no teeth for over a year it is hard to eat. I would need 4 implants upper and lower each.

TRICARE is not perfect but then neither are the other medical insurances available at far greater costs. The base clinic where I am located near told all retirees and dependents to seek medical care downtown. If you have not experienced that then you are lucky. Sure, TRICARE will allow you to go see any doctor on their approved list but that is where common sense stops. I nearly died because the quack I went to downtown prescribed meds that interacted with meds I was already taking. I brought this to his attention, and all is said was well do you want these meds or not. If I had been better suited financially, I would have sued him for malpractice. Instead, I went to another doctor whom I don’t believe gives a damn whether she takes care of my medical condition or not. My wish would be that TRICARE would do a better job of vetting the doctors that folks use the insurance to go and see. I also don’t like the fact that the rates have seemed to steadily rise through the years. That said, try pricing commercially available medical insurance and the cost differential will surprise you!
Tricare was a save me and a heart condition! My wife is disabled and diabetic and it helps us out with insulin for her and other health issues! We would both like be dead if not for Tricare! 28 years Navy for me and 10 years Army Reseve nurse for her. Thank God for Tricare!
Last year tricare forced us to change pharmacies. Do they realize the hassle involved. After five years we had come to trust our pharmacist and they were extremely helpful. It feels really great when you step up to the counter and they call you by your name. At the time they forced us to change, they began charging a copay.. I asked the pharmacist what is different. For seven years we never had a copay, for drs. Or for meds. I questioned tricare about this and they told me I had always paid copays. I assured them I had not. We actually have 3 insurances. Medicare, who also as a courtesy, files our state employees , and last of all they file tricare, who all of a sudden begins charging a copay . WTH, why start after 7 years?
Tricare didn’t force you to change anything, Wal-Mart and Walgreens chose not to accept Tricare any longer, and I’m sure other. Pharmacies chose to do the same thing while others chose to accept Tricare.
Walgreens accepts Tri Care for Life in Arizona. check again if you have not recently checked. I got my medicine just a few days ago and they accept TriCare.

I don’t have Tricare. I have heard of it.
The biggest problem I have is the way they keep changing the pharmacies that we can go to. I have been going to the same pharmacy for years then for no reason I had to change because Tricare stated that they were to be used.
I have been on a treatment for an immunity issue for five years and they just up and stopped it and said I needed to use a different medication with no warning, and I was due a treatment in 5 days from the denial. Now the physician needs to try and find someone who offers the treatment they mentioned. It is not readily available but the other one was. The physician got the denial letter the same time as I got mine. No 30-day window to allow for the change in meds. Tricare has never been an easy insurance to utilize even while sponsors on active duty. Now I am forced to try and get in with VA to treat the problem I have with my immune system. Get the bean counters out of making medical decisions.
I understand TriCare needs to control costs. However, I recently needed the most generic inhaler for bronchospasm and was told I had to appeal the denial. It’s not like I use TriCare for meds a lot, this was only the first time in about 4years that I submitted a prescription request.
Tricare is not accepted at the VA. So it’s just a waist of time and money.

I have to agree, i started to get VA prescriptions and they can’t bill Tricare. For months i have have been trying to find out why . Niether Tricare or VA can answer. I served for 23 years.
If you are rated at 50% SC Disability by VA ALL of your prescriptions are FREE. If you are rated at 30% or less you pay a pro-rated co-pay for your VA prescriptions. You do know you can take your prescriptions to the nearest Military Pharmacy to be filled if they carry it on their Formulary?
What really sucks is when you go from TriCare Prime to Medicare A & B; we we’re promised Health Care for Life? We we’re told we would have to switch to MC A & B now we have to pay $144.00 Monthly $1,720.00 yearly, with new MC costs $170.0 monthly , yearly $2,,040.oo. We should be able to keep TriCare Prime after 65 and pay less than $400.00 a year for individual premiums and have better access to Medical Care than through MC Network??

After reading through some comments, seems quite a few are confusing the different medical programs. Tricare is for MILITARY RETIREES, not all veterans. VA is for all veterans. Tricare for Life acts as a supplement to Medicare for those eligible.
Spouses of veterans receive treatment through the same programs, if eligible. In the case of VA, spouse (or widow/widower) of a 100% disabled veteran enrolls in CHAMPVA.
Check with your County Veteran Service Officers. Hope this helps.
I am a Vietnam Vet and this is the first time I have heard of TRI care. Like I have said before, I am a Vietnam Vet and I have been shot at and missed and Shit on and hit. Hit by my own Country after returning home in 1969. the people called me baby killer and then there was Affirmative Action that took alot of jobs away from me because I am white.
Tri care for Life is good but Biden could take it away and put us on Obama care. I came back in 1968 from Try Hoa.

It has been very very good to me. When I turned 65 and went in Medicare it became my secondary insurance. It is very comforting to have it. I also receive Meds by Mail which is wonderful since we can’t get Big Pharma to lower drug prices.

You should contact your local Veteran Organizations Representatives about your spousal benefits? What is your spouse’s SC Disability rating? Usually the Local or State Veteran Offices can help you out with your situation, if not you can try DVA, VRW, AmVets, American Legion, Vietnam Veterans of America, etc …?
Just burns my ass !went in the military 1985 retired late 2005 the did Desert Storm ,Desert shield ,Iraqi freedom, Kuwait liberation, three years of cd ops ,drug ops ,did Cuba, take money out of my retirement for insurance and I have been able to see a doctor since I left the military Except for three separate occasions, because I simply can’t afford it had a procedure done from kidney stones that I left the military with and they still charge me $15,000 y’all suck and you kiss my ass.
Troy, I say this understanding when we enlisted we were told we had free healthcare for life and it was a shock to find out it was not when I retired in mid 2000. However, Tri-care is $45.00 a month and co-pays of currently $32.00 a visit (using an off base provider). Even though our co-pays have been going up and up it is still the best insurance out there for us Disabled veterans. If you live near a base you can be seen locally at the base with out a co-pay.
If you are having problems seeing a Dr. At the base you might call Tri-care and ask for an off base provider and find a Dr. that participates. You might be much happier.
The VA has always been very good to me when I’ve needed them, TRICARE has always been there for me also, all my Meds are supplied by the VA, I’d be in a world of poop if I had to pay for all my daily medications and the procedures i have needed over the years. the only thing I can’t get is Dental but that’s because i’m not 100 % disable and that’s OK, I’m just glad they are there for everything else.

I have been very fortunate to have Tricare. I have had 4 total knee replacements several Emergency room visits all my meds free have my heart specialist orthopaedic, urologist, dematologist. I can’t complain, Thank you Tricare for Life.
The tx va is the worst place to help vets. I have hate outside the va to medical help. I’m a 100% disabled vet I have had to spend a lot of out of pocket expenses

Something is wrong. If you retired after 20 years you are initialed to retirement pay & full medical benefits. Were you retired? Check a service group like American Legion, DAV.
I joined the Navy in ’77 with the promiss of free medicial for the rest of my life if I stayed in for 20 years. Well, I put in 21 years & every time I turn around I’m getting hit with another co-pay, which goes up each year. So much for that free medical. Just more lies from the goverment. It gets worse every year, the older I get the more of that “free medical” I have to pay for. Now I’m totally disabled & have tried for months to get my house ADA compliant for which I’m entiled. The VA says that they will do the upgrade. Well 6 months later I haven’t heard a word from them, phone calls not returned, letters not ansered. The VA is quick on talk to get you out of their fancy offices & short on delervy on what they say they will do. Lets continue to screw the veterian & make sure that we continue to fund the illegal aliens & third world countries that last year were shooting at us.

If it weren’t for other health insurance, I’m sure it would cost me an arm and leg. So far with my Medicare and Tricare for life, things have been fantastic, can’t beat the price

I am no expert of Tricare but as a USAF Veteran of 24 years I have used Tricare for many years. Your message does not say if you are a military veteran or a spouse of a military veteran. That would be a main requirement. If you a veteran or spouse of a veteran, then call the 24-hour number and I am sure they can tell you more and direct you where to go get started. 800-342-9647. When I joined the Air Force in 1976 I was told I’d have all of my health care needs taken care of and covered if I made it a career. So I stayed almost 22 years got out and today it cost me more in health care than even when I wasn’t retirement age.
I’m a retiree and Tri care for life isn’t what it was sold to us for. They use the benefits as a way to support retention in the Armed Forces but it isn’t true and we are stuck with the results of political deception.
We pay for optometrist. dental, and everything is expensive, including medical care and prescription drugs. I wish I knew then what I know now and then I had other options and could have chose a different career.
What politician or leader cares about this dilemma, none from my vantage point. Free food and money goes to poeple crossing the border illegally and your very own veterans are stuck holding the bag. You reap what you sow!
The V.A. has been very good to me with V.A. care , refferals to local outside specialists !! Never a problem , and always helpful !!

I’m still waiting for a hip replacement they say it needed to be done sooner. However I can’t get appointments to get clearance letters for community care to even set an appointment to have the outside provider do it it’s been 2 or 3 months and still waiting for an appointment by the heart specialist to see me for another letter. No date has been set to see him anyway after that’s done I have to schedule an appointment 4 to 6 weeks on that meanwhile I’m still working and it’s killing me to keep walking thousands of steps a day bone on bone
The VA gives me great care they take care of my problems I am unable to travel because of Strokes heart problems trans ischemic attack so I am sent to outside Hospital when I am in the VA they take care of me their care is Constantine good but being sent to outside hospitals because of travel restrictions TriWest is supposed to pay and help me it is one of the biggest jokes that I have ever seen I am not complaining about the VA or it’s care I have found it to be more than adequate the people the doctors care for the patients they deal with it is just the insurance companies like TriWest that don’t care they want to have the VA contract but don’t want to do anything after that
My only problem with. Tricare is Very slow to approve necessary medical treatment took me three months to get a prescription approved that my cardiologist said was essential and now I’m waiting for approval on hip replacement surgery I hope it doesn’t take another three months because I’m in a lot of pain
No too much red tape I went to the ER and said I have to call them! I had a brain bleed and I was in the i c u for two days and it cost me ten thousand bucks. So No I don’t have any use for them

I was on Tricare before I was on TriWest Tricare at least not real fast but they did something I cannot make a comment on Tricare since I have not been on Tricare for 3 or 4 or 5 years
The VA has me on TriWest which is one of the worst companies insurance companies I have heard of I had my heart stop twice the bill was sent to TriWest TriWest sent a notice back saying that it was not an emergency they did not pay nothing
You have to be careful when you receive correspondence form TriWest as they are for Tricare 4 Life, VA Community Care, and Medicare too. You should appeal the charges with a note from your doctor and the Emergency Room Doctor’s Notes to TriWest for re-address to your Cardiac Care needed? Sometimes, you have to submit claims two or three times and follow-up with phone calls to the claims department to have them understand your specific circumstances for seeking Emergency Room Care? Did your heart problems occur during the Covid-19 Lockdown Restricted Medical Care timeframes; if so that is a reason to have your claims re-examined under special circumstances?

Tricare for life is useless when providers aren’t required to adhere to Medicare and Tricare Pricing Schedules. The latest insult is is our Military Hospital (Lovell Federal Hospital) pushing my wife onto the economy with Tricare. When were military hospitals relieved from the responsibility to care for retirees and their spouse?????
You and your spouse are only entitled to MC using Military Facilities until you turn 65, once you turn 65 (for Retired Military and Spouses & Un-remarried Spouses of 20 year Retirees) they remove the MC from your Retired ID card & your s respective Spouse’s Dependent ID card. You can always go to a Military Medical Facility as a Space Available patient and each respective Military Medical Facility will make a determination if you can be seen as Space Available patient?
They are useless. I have not been successful in trying to use their benefits. I gave up.
I am a disabled veteran with 100% disabilities. I wish that they would. Have a special rate for us. I hardly use Tri Care for life cause I usually go to the VA facilities for treatment and medication. However my wife uses Tri Care for life. It definitely a great insurance but only pays after Medicare pays. Like I said veteran with disabilities should receive a discount for this service.

I was given the wrong information and lost my Tricare when I became eligible for SSI.That process did not make any sense nor did it help me a Disable widow as a matter of fact it put me in a worse hardship.
Your local va office can tell you everything you can get
If you are rated as SC 100% VA Disability you should have received a letter from the your Reginal VA Benefits office that provided you with information concerning your 100% VA Disability Rating? You can contact VA Main CS number 1-800-698-2411, VA Health Benefits Hotline 1-877-222-8387 for assistance. You and your spouse are eligible to have Military Dependent ID cards issued to both of you that will allow you to get on most Military Bases, Posts, Naval Bases, Marine Corps Base, & Coast Guard Bases to visit the Military Exchange & Gas Stations, Commissary, and Associated Military Related Personal Care Services (Barbershop, Beauty Salon, Class VI Store and all the related vendors that have kiosks or facilities on the Military Facility).
You need your DD FM 214, your VA 100% SC Rating letter , your Marriage License, and current State Issued IDs (Drivers License of State ID cards) you can also use a current Passport as Picture IDs too. you should call the nearest Military Facility and speak to their Personnel Department in particular the office that approves your Dependent ID cards for 100% SC VA Disability Rated Veterans? It is usually better if you can make an appointment for your ID Card processing as Active Duty & their Dependents take Priority for receiving service for ID Cards over Retired Mil, and 100% SC VA Disability Rated Veterans & their spouses. I hope this helps all of the 100% SC VA Rated Veterans & their spouses that are asking the same questions regarding their status here? I can tell you that someone in the VA or the Veteran Service Organization Representative that were assisting you with your !00% SC VA Disability Rating dropped that ball by not following through with you to ensure you received ALL of your earned VA Benefits?? You should be aware if you own any Real Estate property that your 100% SC VA Disability Rating makes you exempt form paying County or City Real Estate taxes on your property. I am “Length of service” retired after 28 years of continuous active duty)., and Rated “Totally and permanently disabled” by Department of Veterans Affairs, I filed a VA claim the day after my retirement in 1983. A Medical Service Corps NCO helped me obtain the paper records of my healthcare during those 28 years. I was promptly assigned a claim number and was given a small VA Disability rating. Due to the addition of certain decisions adding issues to the growing list of medical conditions considered “Disabling”; that disability percentage has now reached maximum.compensation. Recent law has been enacted to register ALL veterans, automatically, upon separation. The service-person must meet the definition of “Veteran”. I advise veterans to: secure your form DD-214; get a copy of your health record; register promptly; get a copy of the official VA pamphlet “FEDERAL BENEFITS” for Veterans, Dependents and Survivors. For reliable assistance; contact a local Disabled American Veterans Service Officer.
I am grateful for Tri-care. I am widow of AF vet. I appreciate not having to worry about how to pay for my health care. I value that benefit and I try not to abuse it.

I am a military widow, a veteran and I am 100% disabled (which I did not receive my rating until 2016). I have dealt with either Cham-pus, United Health Care, Medicare or Tricare for Life for the last 66 years. I can honestly say Tricare by far out shines them all. Express Scripts and Tricare manages my prescriptions rather than Medicare Part D and they save me a lot of money. All the people have always been great to work with these days and I have more problems getting authorizations from Medicare for my injections and other pain treatments than I ever have with the VA or Tricare, So I’m sorry for all of you who have problems but believe me there are worse nightmares in healthcare than VA or Tricare.
Tricare is good. But express scripts sucks. A nasal spray one bottle for me costed $68. I got 2 bottles for $21, under Tricare, same insurance, and only cost $21

TYA is over $500 a month. Talk about a hefty price tag. It’s as if the cost is simply to deter using the program. It’s the only health insurance I am aware of that will not cover children until 26. All others offer this feature. I now utilize BCBS for my family and it cost less than my annual TRICARE cost and the TYA. I
Is Tricare part of the VA Medical system? If so, I think it’s very good as I have had a lot of very good care through the years & still do.
The V.A. doesn’t take other healthcare, but should..Just imagine how much money could be saved.
Although the doctors through tri care are top notch, there are WAAAAAY to many hoops to constantly jump through. I had the gastric bypass and the surgeon who did my surgery was the best, but things go wrong and his program is life time to help handle things. I can’t participate in this program because tri care constantly needs a “referral “. Why can’t I participate in this program without all the hoopla? REALLY?
If tricker is what I been getting the medical is great but I wish they would cover dental for everyone.
Any healthcare system you are in requires a referral except Medicare
I had Tri-Care in the Service and the Army used them to send me off post to get help with my mental issues. The WTB used an off post provider that gave me a diagnosis of Bi-Polar disorder axis 1 and when it came time for me to do my evaluations for the MEB/PEB, and billed it to Tri-Care, The Army refused to put that diagnosis in my MEB/PEB findings. I was given the diagnosis of depression and or mood disorder. Lesser diagnosis has to pay smaller or no benefits at all. To me, and I am no attorney, but wouldn’t that be considered insurance fraud? I am making no accusations I am just making an observation and asking a question.
Tricare or United health care pays so little that the doctors are beginning to realize this and who suffers the veteran i had a ct scan that charged $1900 and us healthcare paid $92???? Why would the want the healthcare to dislike everything about treating of a veteran?

Their job is not to save money. Its to serve those who served. When I enlisted in the military I was told your health care worries will be over. Apparently the people who fund it want us to forget this theory. As for tricare it is pretty goog. My only negative is Express Script. Their prices are getting out of hand and the the turn around time is unpredictable. Right now I have one prescription that is getting out of hand. I have enough pills to last me till Christmas. and they keep sending me emails to approve more. It seem they can’t get enough money to satisfy their needs
Jimbo; you are correct in criticism of Express-Scripts Some of the dissatisfaction with E-S is their system changes over past few years. There used to be an option to suspend a medication when you have accumulated an over-supply at home. (That happens when we sometimes miss a dose and our stock builds up.) I solve that problem by keeping close watch and NEVER let my stock get below three month’s worth. I am 89 years old and take eight meds daily; spread over SIX times from 0600 to 2400. That seem s to be working for me.
I agree, the copays is thru the roof. I have 5 meds from Express scripts. Cost me way too much especially since I’m retired and live on a budget.
Trickle has so many hoops I do not get my much needed care and am forced to wait 12 to 24 months before they even begin allowing me to start the process for chiropractic, massages, nerve blocks, and both knee injections. I can’t afford the gas and they even find ways to screw me on that. If they improved 100 percent they would hit the terrible care mark. I don’t get care the way I need it to have any quality of life.
On top of my last comment, I would like to add that I have worked for the army, navy, air force, government, contract to government and am a well respected citizen. Not only did I get shafted on tricare and military privileges in my divorce, but can also say the VA gives privileges to a lot of needy people , but also give too generously (my tax dollars) to people who do not necessarily deserve these benefits. How can some one who has spent only weeks in military be eligible for a lifetime of full benefits for themselves and family? No surgery, no major disability, but rewarded with big bucks. Just doesn’t seem right. What about the worth of the rest of us? When VA asked about this, I get a reply they are not looking into this right now.

Unfortunately I call my case similar. I was married to a man for 43 years. It was my understanding tricare and base privileges were mine forever. This is what I was told several years ago. Well, unfortunate divorce…not my choice, I was stripped from all base and medical activity in the divorce. I am now on CHCBP (tricare cobra) and am paying a small FORTUNE on medical care…ALOT. I can’t afford too many Dr visits because insurance cost way..way too high… what else am I to do? I need health insurance. Not happy about any of this!!!!
May, I was divorced after 39 years. I fall under the Former-spouse 20/20/20 rule. I have my own indefinite ID card with full benefits for life. As long as I do not remarry. The same that I had when married. You need to get with DEERS to get all your divorce information put in the system as divorced former-spouse. You will be put in their system as you being your own sponsor. If you fall under the 20/20/20 rule you also got 50%of this retirement pay. Civilian courts have NO say over any of this. This is all the Government.

Tricare charges ridiculous premium for Retired Reserve family plan at $1,200 per month for family plan medical insurance. Before I retired from the Army my premium was $475.19 per month family plan. Why would they charge anyone $1,200 per month after retirement from service? Congress needs to do something about this if they truly care for all the veterans who served this country honorably.
Tricare could use alot of improvement. Illegal immigrants get more than I do and its free. I served 20 years in the Navy and I have to pay for it all even my pills for a service connected disability. I dont see anything getting done by this Biden Administration or by the Democrats period. I think its sickening that people in politics either Democrat or Republican, cant pass legislation to make veterans lives better and for free. We earned it, so give it to us. Quit throwing peanuts and get serious.

I’ve been affiiliated w/VA for (35) years & thank God for it every nite in my prayers to my Lord & Savior! The only downside is the drive round trip is approx. 150 miles however it’s a small price tp pay as my affiliates are all very caring professional people. They all make me fe very comfortable as I know that I’ve had moe BANG FOR THE BUCK!! I’ve had cancer (5 times prompting many surgeries,meds etc.
One time I was sandwiched between a semi & required me t/b removed/transported to hospital,etc. I’ll nevder forget the Orthopedic Surgeons comments that it was one of worst conditions that they had ever seen! I’m saying,(3) surgeries,(15) months of P/T to return me to condition I was b/4
The short of it is that in (35) years,(5)bouts w/Cancer,(prostate,kidney,bladder,recently loss of most of my hair on top of my head,postraumatic(PTSD), Bi-Polar, & on & on,I’m still above the ground & functioning. write your congressman and tell them your story. If they have a hef ear call VFW They will help you, I am a retired soldier myself of 22yrs service, I have TRICARE FOR LIFE and I still have problems seeking help for medical care. from the VA Medical Hospital.

They pay your 911 Ambulatory/ER for some bills and I always have had to go for the same issues but yet I just received a $ 1215.00 MRI bill ,they gave me and the VA denied to pay this bill like they did several times before .this is not right .
