The VA has lied to me numerous times on how to apply for disability… I have been screwed several times on the application process… I stand at 40% but should be closer to 80 as I have bouts of vertigo, chronic headaches and severe Neuropathy in my back, arms, and from my belt-line to the soles of my feet… my legs give out on me regularly and I have fallen in stores, and at home. I have reported these and other issues at the Viera VA center In Florida to several (pseudo doctors) they call providers since 2010 and I recently reviewed my records only to find not a single dot or tee about my issues…..nothing was documented. I contacted the Advocate and she acknowledged that this was an issue… and that I had to petition to have the records amended… that is no easy task. Its all willful stonewalling our vets. The GOVT cares more about illegals entering this country giving them free everything while our vets have many conditions to contend with…and I dare say that much of what we deal with is due to experimental concoctions they injected us with posing as medication… as well as chemical and bio exposures in combat theaters…(all hush hush so they dont have to pay us) And we send 40 billion$$ to Ukraine to line the pockets of criminal elements in that region. (Zelinski has a 40 million dollar property in Florida by the way) I digress… The rinos and dems have always had it out for our veterans… they hate us with every fiber of their being and until they are dealt with we will continue to lose! I have given up on trying to get a better disability rating…its a fruitless quagmire and getting decent and accurate information or documentation is nearly impossible… they stonewall you at every level… they rather have you living out of your car!

It is funny how the VA rating system goes. I was at 50%. Then they gave me a rating of 30% for asbestos problems with my lungs. They are only working at about 50% now. Anyway I got the 30% rating but they only raised my overall rating to 60%. I do not understand their math. If anyone else con explain it to me I would like to hear from you.

I feel that the VA makes it very difficult to get disability. They admit that they caused me to have lung issues but tell me that I have to get supporting documents to prove that the issues have been a problem all the time since my ETS. The problem is that the doctors and or hospitals are either dead or have no records since that they only have to retain them for so many years. A very sad state of affairs when one admits they are the cause but still find a way to not help.

I never had a problem getting my disability. I did 2 tours in Vietnam from 1968-1970. Started out with a percentage for CHF and went full 100% when I was diagnosed with prostate cancer. Sorry it didn’t go more smoothly for other vets.

I think all veterans should have free medical for life, should be able to go to any hospital, in the United States for medical, the people in Washington have it, they did nothing for this country except trying to ruin it. And build there wealth.

    • Allen Whetstone says

      July 5, 2022 at 6:27 pm

Amen when I came in 1981 I herd I some 5 words free health care for life!! but as we know we still pay and after 65 we fall in with everyone else it should be better we’ll care, dental should be free. If you stay 25 years or more your retirement should be 100% of your base pay for retirement. Life . If a senator spends just 4 years he or she gets 100% of 200.000 plus. I get it but veterans should get more specially the one who stayed 25 years plus.

This is exactly what happened to my husband. He applied for his benefits and only got 10%, he tried to get more but the dr never tried to help him. He was in asian orange territory in Viet Nam, he had copd bad and had herat problems. He went to see the so called dr they assigned him, but he was a no good, my husband died after the VA put him to sleep for his valve surgery in 2019. They put him on life support when he did not want that, they said he didn’t sign a DNR. He signed one every time he went to the hospital. They said he didn’t have one, but they didn’t give him one to sign. He should have been 100% disabled all along. Now I can not get anything from the VA because of him only being 10% disabled. The VA sucks in Fort Worth..

People that don’t deserve thier help an play the game get total benifits honest folks get delayed delayed delayed so they never have a valid claim. Been telling them for 49 years about water contamination at camp lejeune an it’s a fact from 2 universities an ncbi gov contamanenta there’s a neurologic side to this to no avail even though it’s proven and they also didn’t bother telling them they were contaminated which could have changed many lives for the better if they’d have known

Yes, you’re right. My husband broke his back in the US Marine Corp 9 yrs10 months. e was gunho, the Marne Corp as everything to him and I respected him for his dedication to the Corp. He always gave 110% sometimes I felt like our children and I were #2 in his life, but I understood his dedication. He was given 10% and was told that he could stay in if he allowed the surgeons at Balboa Navl Hospital (SanDiego, CA) to do surgery, I refused, this was in 1989 and Back Surgery was a very dangerous surgery, we had 2 young sons and we just could not take a chance.
My husband was given $20,000.00 compensation, which we had to pay back by the Military taking part of his disability, we received $90.00 a month after they took $300.00 out to pay back the $20,000.00, and we had to pay taxes on it in 1989. We found out in 1994 that we should not have paid taxes on it but it was too late to request to do a 1040X. We had two young sons a 3 yr old and a 1 yr old when we got out. My husband is not a quitter and he continued to push himself enduring the pain determined to support his family. We moved home to Hawaii to live with my parents and have childcare. I transferred with my job, taking a downgrade, from a GS-7 to GS 4. My husband had to work three parttime jobs so we could make ends meet. Yes, Hawaii’s cost of living is much higher than a lot of places, but we had family to help us get back on our feet. We did get our own place, my husband missed out on most of our children’s childhood. Without their grandparents, they would not have been able to enjoy the recreational activities. My parents transported them to all of the afterschool activities and stayed with them until I was able to get there after work. If we could not afford things for our children, my parents and my siblings would always step in, we would always repay them eventually. My husband was able to establish a better paying job and I was able to move up with my job, it took 7 years.
Th doctor that my husband has at the VA clinic is pretty good, but the VA is making the doctor jump through all kinds of hoops. My husband was approved to have Chiropractic care which helps him to be able to walk without pain to perform simple tasks, to live days without too much pain. He is not a complainer. Now something called “Community Care” with the took it away from him, they said to was just maintenance care and he doesn’t need it. Chicago va office drops me from 100% to 10% May 2022 and have several health problems with breathing issues, fatigue, rapid weight loss and to them i must either have surgery or do chemo in order to continue getting 100% benefits. Doctor refuses to do surgery because of where tumor located so they just want to wait for it to grow bigger before operating and cant do chemo because 1st cancer tumor grew from softball size to football size in a day so chemo out of question. Ive sent appeals and to no avail they still deny me benefits needed with health issues. Illinois is a joke taking care of there veterans

The VA was improving, and service was getting better, but it cost money, and the democrats didn’t like it, so they threw the monkey wrenches in the works, and we veterans are paying the price again. We were promised care when we donned the uniform, and now they prefer to spend money on illegals and leave us to suffer in silence. I’ll be silent no longer! Fix the VA!! We the men and women who defended this nation deserve the best treatment, not the crap you serve up to us! Fix the VA! It is getting harder to get appointments with specialty care and getting medications in a timely manner because they have to be mailed to you from KC. I still have problems from surgery that I had 5 April 2021, have had lots of tests and they can’t find out what’s wrong so they say it will go away.

He is yet to receive any compensation from Agent Orange!! He recently had DBS and the Surgeon found tissue in his brain indicating exposure to Agent Orange. It mimics Parkinson’s!! As a Vietnam veteran I would like to thank the veterans that have appealed to the Supreme Court on our behalf about the circumstances of having PTSD & or other conditions due to being in a combat zone many years ago. I was in the Saigon area in the year 1965 & was fortunate to come home & was released from duty in 1968 with an honor discharge. I had no idea I had PTSD until the year 2000. At that time I met a veteran counsulor who helped me receive a 100% rating to receive help from the Veterans Administration & that didn’t start until the year 2003. So, from 1968 to the year 2000 I didn’t know or didn’t get any help from the V.A. That is 32 years or having to wait for assistance from the V.A. And, I agree with the petition to the Supreme Court to get compensated from the V.A. in regards to all that time lost & I know many other veterans that feel the same way. Thank you again for looking out for us vets.

Please clarify, are you referring to your Military Retirement Pay or VA Disability Compensation? Were you recently married? If you’re referring to your Military Retirement Pay and you were married while in the service your dependents should have been accounted for in your pay thus being carried over into your MRP. Unless you didn’t submit your marriage certificate to add them. If this is the case you should contact DOD at (800)321-1080 or better yet call the Department of Veterans Affairs at (800)827-1000. Either way they can point you in the right direction. If it’s the latter, i.e., Disability Compensation from the VA, just submit a copy of your marriage certificate and your child’s birth certificate to the VA. By the way, VA Disability Compensation benefits are tax free dollars. I hope this helps.

The VA should study all Entomologists that were exposed to harmful toxic substances. We were all poisoned by the military. I have been working on my fifth claim. I’m tired of the run around. The response from my first claim. VA letter wanted proof that I was in Vietnam (BULL SHIT). Why the hell do we have a DD214. It’s all stated. That was the first claim. After five claims, they still do not recognize Toxic Peripheral Neuropathy, even though I am being treated for it.

California needs to change the criterial for waived vehicle registration fees. Currently only those with a 100% rating involving loss of limbs are qualified. This benefit in no way helps them cope with their disability it’s just a thank you for above and beyond sacrifice. In the in reality they are actually minimizing other disabilities prioritizing one over the other. It’s actually insulting to those who suffered severe disabilities not involving loss of limbs or restricted mobility. A 100% permanent rating should be the criteria and have nothing to do with mobility. Vets who sacrificed their health to this degree should all be treated equally. I have submitted a bill change request to Senator Brown who has forwarded it to Sacramento. So far everyone I spoke to believes they law should be changed accordingly.

California, 9% “No” at the time of this comment, is the Capital of unhoused Veterans. Notice that I say “unhoused”. I say that because every disabled Veteran (if your without a Home you are disabled) has the “permanently” established Pacific Branch of the National Home for Disabled Veterans at West Los Angeles, CA.
Problem is, non-veteran special interests have stolen the keys. We even have beachfront property for the residents of the Home but that, too, has been taken over by the City of Santa Monica.
Don’t get it twisted, California WLA VA is the biggest, uniquely deeded, land-asset in the country but crooked developers and politicians are bent on tweaking America’s moral obligation to genuinely care for her defenders. Their “model” master plan for WLA will eventually reach all VA locations, even those that think VA walks on water.

Having been in “The System” for over 50+ years I have seen the VA go done the toilet and I feel for the young vets today for the fight they have to go through with this corrupt system. My very first visit to the VA clinic in Hawaii, didn’t have a hospital back then, back in 1971 after getting discharge from the Vietnam War, my back doctor sat in his chair reading a magazine on Yachts, he was a freaking guy from India and he was my doctor! The best service i ever got from the VA hospital was in American Lake, Tacoma and Seattle, WA. They found so many things wrong with me medically that others never bothered to look for and was I ever glad I was in their system.
Now living in the corrupt Las Vegas the VA hospital is so corrupt and mismanaged, and worse with the COVID B/S that a vet cannot get the treatment he earned.

VA doesn’t seem to have room for many of the older veteran’s now that the military stresses the troops coming out from Desert Storm and later to claim disability whether they have a valid disability or not. The game seems to be to keep pushing for 100% even if it takes years and with the help of these guys who guarantee they can increase your percentages. Until VA reexamines every claim for validity, the system will fail many of those who need it the most.

That’s just what the giant bureaucracy that is supposed to serve the needs of veterans wants to hear. Blame each other for the shortfalls of the V.A.? It’s broken in so many places that to not recognize a systemic failure is to delay any hope of fixing it. Compare the dedication we had to our country to the way we are treated now. Sorry. it’s not the fault of the Veterans. Too many seeking compensation for wounds suffered in war? Then expand the system to meet those needs. Wounded warriors waiting years for a decision on their claim and that’s somehow the fault of the warriors? Never a shortfall of money and resources to wage war but after the fact veterans and their needs are just too damned expensive? The giveaway to themselves of over two trillion dollars without blinking an eye but suddenly the cupboards are bare, and that’s our fault? How dare you blame the veteran for the shoddy treatment and the ignorance of our leaders.

  62. JHV says

    May 1, 2022 at 10:42 am

#1 – Throughout my military career, I was seen by Active-Duty medical doctors for my right knee and back pain and have documentations for all these visits. Since my retirement from the military, I have had three (3) surgeries to my knee and several procedures for my back pain by civilian doctors. During these times, I have submitted both military and civilian documentation to the VA for my disabilities and have been awarded a TEMPORARY rating. My thoughts on this: if a veteran who had surgeries and procedures done for injuries while on active duty should be awarded a PERMANENT disability rating for the pain, suffering, stress and lack of mobility from a normal person. I know if the VA was to go this route, this would help eliminate their backlog, provide better and timely service to other veterans waiting for their claims to be processed. #2 – Those veterans who are/have been sent for evaluation to their claims at any facility are usually doctors whose contract been awarded by the VA to the lowest bidder. These doctors don’t care about the veterans and are just concerned about drawing a paycheck. Their evaluations back to the VA are a mean to let them know how good of a job they are doing by saving money from being paid/belongs to us veterans plus keeping their contract with the VA. These doctors have never served in the military and have no idea to: How to pick up a weapon and stand on those walls to protect our loved ones!!!
