According to the 2018 census, there are 18 million veterans in the United States. Recently, there have been changes in military members and many veterans benefits. These changes will benefit millions of military members and veterans across the country.

You need to know these changes to get the most out of these benefits. What’s new for military and veterans benefits for 2022? Check out this article and learn more about the recent military benefits news.

New Benefits for Military Members

The most significant change for most service members was the pay increase in January. But according to the White House, the pay could rise even more in 2023. It is due to the $813 billion spending proposal, which includes a 4.6% pay rise for the military.

There are raises in basic pay when troops meet promotion markers. Every year, Congress decides how much of a raise all the troops should get.

A junior troop makes about $25,000 a year, while senior troops make around $70,000. This pay excludes allowances, special pay, and other benefits.

If this raise gets approved, this might be a massive boost for military pay in the last 20 years. But, as of today, discussions are still ongoing on Capitol Hill.

Updated Veterans Benefits

The recent veterans benefits allow members to have benefits even if they did not serve up to 20 years. This is possible through the Blended Retirement System or BRS.

Before, under BRS, you would get monthly retirement pay if you served for 20 years or more. They would pay 20% less than what’s in the legacy system, in which only those with service before 2018 could enroll.

Now, many plans for veterans are available, such as the Thrift Savings plan. Continuation pay and lump sum retirement pay are also available for military veterans.

With the proposed budget, more families will experience different VA programs. The Veterans Affairs plans to add a thousand families this fall as mandated by Congress.

Included in the proposed spending budget are mental health programs and prosthetics care. Also included in this plan are caregiver supporter stipends and outpatient care services.

Other Military Members and Veterans Benefits

Last January, military service members got a 5.1% increase in Basic Allowance for Housing. It’s a massive BAH rate increase since 2016.

Any active duty service member stationed in American states is eligible for BAH. BAH gives cash supplements to members that don’t have government-provided housing. The amount depends on the rank, location, and if they have dependents.

Know More About the Veterans Benefits in 2022

Veterans Affairs will have a $128 billion advance allotment for VA programs for 2024. The next fiscal year starts on October 1, but officials will unveil other budget plans very soon.

If this plan gets approved, there will be a significant increase in veterans benefits. Military members will also have higher compensation, which can attract and keep more troops in the service.

It’s an investment in your death. However, your money goes into paying out toward those who do make the sacrifice. However, I would argue for those who spend 20+ years should that those funds should be capable of being borrowed against for maturity and interest just like other long life policies.

Race, color has zero to do with these policies. Politicians are politicians, only the People, citizens of this country can make the change. If you want change, communicate the issues with government officials and hold them accountable and then vote accordingly. Obama, Trump, Biden and the administration of each President. That’s the most effective way to make change.

100% vets service connected the amt. They receive is not taxable an should not be vaunted ss income as many other states provide. The house passed bill in 2017 senate let it sit. House passed bill ag as in in senate sitting. Maybe readers dhould remove all members this spring an fall regardless of party for not putting it up for vote. I made numerous calls to senator baker but get call at times stating its a different person’s issue for not putting it up for vote. This gives vets at 100% no taxes for real estate. Don’t vote these people back on office this spring or fall.

My husband served in the U.S.Navy, fast attack spy sub. He was gone out to sea most of his days serving his country.. When it came to re-enlist he got out due to being out to sea so much, he couldn’t be a father to our son, who was young at the time. He still wanted to serve his country so he enlisted in the PA National Guard, he became an aviation mechanic. During his time of serving he became disabled due to faulty safety equipment. The aviation gate that is supposedly there to hold them in when they are up in the air working on the plane, fixing the problem. He was finished with the job, so he was putting the panel back up on the tail end of the plane leaning on the security gate reaching up when the gate flow open on him up in the air est. 15 feet. He was coming down head first, he was swinging his arms to grab onto anything on the gate. He did grab a hold of something which made in come down landing on his feet onto the aviation hangar’s concrete floor. He was bought to Sewickley ER by ambulance. I was working register there at the time. I heard the call, Guardsman down. The ER dr, Dr Frye came to me and told me that the guardsman down is my husband. He said, he would take good care of him. My husband shattered his left heel up into his ankle. Dr Frye refer my husband to a great orthopedic surgeon. My husband suffered tremendously before he could even have the surgery. Then when he had the surgery he suffered again trying to heal. It took sometime before my husband could walk again. He had to learn to walk all over again. He was getting paid through the Guard as if he was working there full time. Once the orthopedic released him, he went back to FedX they were holding his job, but, once they seen him walking in with a cane, they told him they have no position for him. Then the PA National Guard told my husband he would have to pass their physical to become active again. They knew he couldn’t run. He was 100% healthy til he took that fall due to faulty over-greased security gate that the inspector past as being safe. Nothing that I know of happened to him. But, my husband was discharged as a disabled veteran. His orthopedic surgeon wanted to put him on social security disability. He told the doctor he was to young to sit around and be disabled. So, he learned to do things to past the physical to get into Lockheed Martin, in Greenville SC, as a aviation mechanic. He was taking pain medication to be able to handle all the climbing, crawling and stooping. He worked there til he could no longer climb the aviation ladders. Next, was GE as a machinist. His career there was tough. He was in and out for surgeries on his injured foot. He lost height in that foot so he walked crooked. That caused back problems, he was getting injections in his back for the pain. Then his right leg that he relayed on his knee was giving him problems. He got injections for that. He was having restless leg syndrome. He had sleep issues due to the pain went through sleep studies, he had sleep apnea and narcolepsy. He started falling at work being taken out by ambulance to the trauma center. Finally, after so many falls at GE, the GE nurse told him they are putting him on permanent 100% disability. My husband couldn’t fight the VA no more, he tried several times for more disability. He just didn’t have the fight in him to go to battle with the VA. He shouldn’t of had to battle the VA for more of a percentage of disability pay, he lost two jobs and we lost our lives that we use to have before he fell due to military faulty equipment. He just went down hill being permanently 100% disabled, he was worn out from his injury, more and more illnesses, high blood pressure, diabetes, depression and anxiety. He ended up passing away from lung cancer. Since he past away, going on 7 years I get nothing from the VA, no monthly payments, no health care, no insurance policy, no VA mortgage loans. His careers were cut short due to his VA disability. I get a small pension from GE. You would think due to military faulty equipment you would of taken care of my husband. Give him a desk job at the PA Guard so he could of put in his time as needed to retire and receive a pension and I would be taken care of by the VA after he past away. I missed a lot of work being his caretaker. I got nothing from the VA. It’s very sad to say my husband loved his country. He would of fought for his country again as a disabled veteran but he couldn’t get back in. That truly is a terrible thing the military does when you become disabled. So, I have to scrap to survive now with no support from the VA. We supported our country and would have continued if my husband didn’t get injured due to military faulty equipment. But, our own government turns their backs on the disabled veteran and then the military family when the disabled veteran passes away. Why????

I’m am a spouse of a service member who is about to retire but since he is in reserves will lose are insurance because he has decided to get out after 20 years but we could keep it if we wanted to pay for it .Ok but the problem with that is it is $ 1200 a month compared to us paying $229 a month right now . I can see maybe going up some but nearly a $1000 mor a month that is like a slap in the face these service. Men and women may not report to duty every day but they do have a job outside of the military or maybe they don’t but they leave beside the wife ,kids and other family members too go overseas or maybe even go on missions in country that they are taking away from there family members a year or just a little over sometimes to put there life on line for us to have freedom. But the minute they say there done they get dropped like a hot potato I just think it’s unfair. I’m not saying it should be free if your not 60 yet but at least make the Tricare affordable
