The Ultimate Guide to the Military Pay Raise in 2022

Last Updated: December 19, 2022

On January 1st, 2022, the government increased military pay by 2.7%.

This pay raise benefits everyone in the military. But, exactly how much does each military member get?

In this guide, we’ll answer that in detail while giving you resources for learning more.

Military Pay in 2022

The 2.7% military pay raise applies to all branches of the military. It doesn’t matter whether you’re in the marine corps, army, air force, navy, coast guard, or space force, you’ll receive the same 2.7% raise.

To be clear, the figures below show basic military pay in 2022. They don’t include non-taxable allowances such as Basic Allowance for Subsistence (BAS) and Basic Allowance for Housing (BAH). Those also rise in 2022, but by a different amount.

With that in mind, differences in basic pay depend solely on rank and years of service. In general, the higher the rank and years of service, the higher the basic pay.

Below are military salary ranges for officers, prior-enlisted officers, warrant officers, and enlisted members.

    Hello,
First off, I want to thank the men and women who served, and to their spouses, I believe you deserve equal acknowledgement and respect. The sacrifices that all military families have endured must be recognized and adequate compensation for family members who have sacrificed their lives, and livlihood to support and be caregivers to our Veterans. I am horrified over how disrespected military wives are being treated. I wonder if there are any husbands who’s wives served in the military, and what their experience has been. As the grandaughter of WWII general, and the daughter of a Vietnam Vet, I am appalled by how much energy goes into not caring for Veterans and have spent my entire adult life fighting VHA and VBA for what my Father earned through service and it continues to be a full time job dealing with the substandard care and denying him dental care and other services he should have as 100% service connection. It’s astounding how Administrators and higher up’s are untouchable despite how much harm their poor decisions or just refusing to make a decision which is harming Veterans, and their families and caregivers too. It is an honor to care for my Dad, and I treasure our time together. I am worried for what, if any future I will have, as caregiving, on top of me, having to fight against corruption at VA and the war, waged, against Veterans healthcare needs, that is clearly not in their best whole health interest. Is there no such program for a daughter or son of a Veteran who has spent 20 years of their life being a caregiver? My Dad is my only family, and VA has done him more harm, and even tried to blame me vs. helping the Vet. I just don’t understand where all the money in budgets for VA goes, and how the 2nd largest budget in this country literally has no accountability, oversight is thwarted, and our Veterans who fought for our freedom and liberties that seem to be lost on today’s Americans. The BIGGEST PROBLEM IS ACCOUNTABILITY and draining the swamp at VA of the systemic problems that will continue until the enemies within the VA are removed. We can make the changes we want to see happen at VA, but we have to stand up to, and remove the top leadership and corrupt politicians who are not serving our Veterans. When there is a locked door, and a gaurd with a gun standing between a Veteran and the Patient Advocates Office, there is no advocating for Veterans at VA.

Have you asked about the community Care act the VA have passed.or the government pass.the will help you.the did me they paid the bills no matter if you’re rated 30 or 100 present.

  2. Earl T Gardner Sr says

    November 7, 2022 at 5:47 pm

My 100% rating is a result of multiple service connected issues. For example, I’m 70%, 20%, and 10%, all different issues. My question is can you still increase these rating to 100%?

    • Richard Thomas says

      November 21, 2022 at 4:25 pm

If you can get a review at the hospital VA to rate you.like diabetes or agent orange. They can get you a physical to determine you’re physical & mental health. They have called a community Care act. You can see a civilian Dr or provide one for you. I’d check in to it.

Yes the spouses of a retired 30 year veteran needs to receive more pay. My deceased did three tours in Vietnam and was exposed to agent orange. Had cancer, lost his prostrate and a lung due to agent orange. Also got cancer in the other lung and eventually passed. His family suffered as well as he did.

My husband retiered after 22 years and received dental. He became 100 percent disability about 10 years ago. He passed last December because a stewardess on an Alaska flight refused me access to his medication on a flight because my name came was not on the bag. We no sooner landed and got to our hotel room and his condition got so severe because I was unable to get him his m dictation . He dropped dead of a massive heart attack Can’t believe Alaska airlines treated one of our disabled vets like that. So after 49 years of marriage of which I served more then half with him. I am left with very little to show for. As a good military wife I stayed home raised the kids took care of the house the car and all that life brought our way. I believe mikitary wives are sadly over looked as serving also. I know not all were supportive of their husband commitment but many of us served right along with our husbands nd received nothing in return. I believe it is a terrible diserves to our sacrifices. I know like most all mikitary wives we did our best to keep things running smooth at home so our husbands coukd considerate on their commitments to serve our country. We are the over looked members.
